I tried to gather some advice or references on a ways to to light a candle from a distance in "The spooky, the mysterious...the bizarre!" in vain. Maybe the pyromaniacs overhere will help better Smile What I am looking to achieve is lighting a candle "on command". Another fellow in the bizarre forum was looking for ways to do the opposite, extinguishing a lit candle from a distance so maybe you guys could help him as well. Thanks.

Check out McBride's Candle, I know it can be found in Mystery School. This may help you?

Sure thanks! Is it a commercially available item or is it a routine in the Mystery School book Kennedy?

McBrides Candle is a commerical item by.....McBride. I have seen tehm on eBay and here int eh for sale forum, and probably on a lot of magic websites.

But it is not a remote lighting candle. You hold it in your hand and light it without using a match. Then you can float it out in front of you a little bit. It is a nice effect, but I don't think it is what was requested.

It is not good to show closeup at all, but it is always close to you.

Extinguishing a candle at a distance would be magnitudes easier than lighting one at a distance. (No jokes about a real long match, please...) But it would depend on teh criteria for the candle. For example, can it be a big round 3-4 inch candle, or must it be a thin tapered candle? How close up does it need to bear examination? If six feet,t hen you chave some options. If very close up, there are far fewer options. Decide on the circumstances and post them here. If it can some big honking candle on a large stand, across the stage or room, it can be done with some fairly conventional means. But as I said, if it is a tiny tapered candle and needs to examinable close up, it gets a lot tougher.

I am working on a self contained, self lighting candle that can be placed on a table, and with all hands above the table, will automatically light when desired by the one doing the effect. You do have to be somewhat in proximity of it, and certainly are not across a room. The mechanics of it work fine already. But the aesthetics (it has to bear pretty close examination) is taking longer. However, it is pretty cool to see. But it wont be available for release for a while yet, as I have too many other projects to complete first.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.
