Well you can perform for many people but it needs much misderection,so if I were you I would just perform for 2 or 3 of your friends just to be safe.Do it in a large mirror to get the angle and the distance.
PS. I would stick with the balducci it is much cleaner bot have fun with the KR

Never do King's Rising. It is the worst levitation out there. Both on Baliducci and King's Rising, it depends on the shoes you are wearing. Never wear flat shoes or heels for doing those two levitations. I invented my own form of levitation that can be done with those shoes. I have done the baliducci with flat shoes but it is hard.

King sounds good, but I showed my wife and she had no trouble seeing how it was done, I think I need more practice and poor lighting.
Hey Song, any info on your levitation?

2-3 people to perform it and the distance must be about 2-3 meters.
Remember the the angles is importent for this trick! This is not zero gravity that you don't care of the angles. It's King Rising! And make some misdirection for the bigining and don't tell them what you are supost to do! |

Have you considered your sock color? Does it blend in with your pants and shoe color and the floor covering? Or does it stand out like a big toe?
I remember when I did the FFF, I wore one black sock to match the silk, and one white sock to match the gimmick ... if I raised the silk too far, the black sock looked like the silk ... and if they spotted the gimmick, they assumed it was the white sock. I then later colored the gimmick black so I could wear two black socks (lol) - but I think you see what I'm trying to point out. Also ... some socks make it easier to get setup. In paticular, thin black dress socks which have a certain slick feeling to them. Wearing the right sock can improve setup time. None of this will help bad angles - but hopefully can be of some help once you get the angles right. JoeJoe

I've performed King's Rising for people more than 200 times and have yet to get burned. That's probably due to the fact that I performed it alone over and over again (some call it practice) twice that many times before I performed it for an audience. I'm amazed at how many effects are bashed in here because they didn't work after 5 minutes of practice and no presentation. I'm not trying to flame here, it just seems like practice, original thought to presentation, and showmanship are all dying arts. Everyone wants to be a master performer in 5 minutes with the instant download of the day. And Nick Jegor is right, done correctly with some thought to presentation, the Balducci still kills after television exposure and countless websites exposing the method.
Young or new magicians need to learn that it's NOT the method, it's the presentation. I will give my own personal example. I was once performing at an adult Birthday Party and while I was pulling a prop out of my jacket pocket, my TT fell out right onto the floor. I quickly picked it up and one of the guests pointed it out saying he had one as a kid. I tried to cover by explaining it was for a gag for a different effect. He joked to the rest of the crowd that he could never fool anyone once they saw the TT on his thumb. I was rattled, but I figured it was a good opportunity to test a theory. I immediately went into my mismade bill effect and it totally amazed them! In fact, the guy who had the TT as a kid came up to me after the show and said the mismade bill was his favorite effect and he had no idea how I could have done it. My point is that so much emphasis seems to be these days on methodology. I mean, how many ways do we really need to levitate? I'm no authority, but my humble advice would be to work on your own presentation of whichever levitation you like the best. Practice it 100 times either in front of a mirror or videotape, and THEN try it out in the real world. I know that would involve work, thought and effort, but the result is more than worth the work. Not only will your success rate skyrocket, you will feel more fullfilled as a performer with your own presentation and style that will set you apart from the sea of "insert latest tv special here" clones. |

James "the levitator" is so correct. If you look at what KR is, its 10% moves and 90% creating the circumstance.
Before I execute the KR I do a few comedy gags and totally distract them from what I am about to do. They are not expecting the move and by the time it is over they are just being hit by what their brain just saw. As James states, this move is best done in front of a vidcam a good 15-20 times at least to get an idea of YOUR angles and how you appear to specs. The more you understand the psychology of this effect the better you can perform it.

I do king rising but rarely. Not because I don't like it ,just because I don't tend to wear the right sneaks or shoes.

For the King rising I will tell it again.
Follow the right angles and make a big misdirection for the beginning. P.S. I think you wont be doing king rising in the weather like that? Merry Christmas! |

I forgot to give credit where credit is due though. I think it took a lot of courage for Perl to go out and perform something he/she wasn't totally confident and practiced with. If Perl can get out there and perform something without lots of practice and attention to detail, just imagine how awesome Perl will be WITH practice and effort. I think one of the most important ingredients in being a performer of any kind is guts, and Perl showed plenty of guts! A person with Perl's intestinal fortitude and effort into rehearsal and presentation will be unstoppable! Keep at it!

I hear that a lot but I hear that its price is going to be ridiculous. I never bouught the first one mainly because I didn't like that you had to bend down and I wished that you would go a little bit higher you know.
