I'm just about done with a routine for the quadro-vicious circle set of linking barb wire rings. Currently, I'm working on the presentation with a couple of friends. One of them suggested that the routine be done silently. His reason is, that most laymen will recognize the rings immediately and know what to expect.
What do you guys think? Do you have any jokes/puns/lines that are so great that it would be a shame to do it silent? |

Is this a good set of rings?I have the Ninja Rings and don't want to spend all that money on trash if the Ninja Rings are just at good.

There is a big difference between the barbed rings and the ninja rings, first thing is ninja rings are for close up , barbed rings are for stage, and secondly the barbed rings are made of barbed wire { the one used to contain cattle ect , has pointy thinks stuck to it, {which cut, bleed and hurt} and yes the routine is usually done wearing heavy duty gloves

I don't think linking rings should ever be done silently no matter how many spectators know what they are. There are too many vocal subelties that need to be there for maximun impact. Simple things like "each ring is identical in size and shape" - those are all very important.
I would expect with barbed wire rings, you would want to highlight the danger - the best way to do this is with patter. Sure, people know that barbed wire can cut you ... by telling them, you re-enforce what they already know and bring it to the front of their minds. Just my 2 cents ... JoeJoe

Or show them they cut ..... by erm .... Cutting ... you know get a kid out the audience and cut their arm off? Or if health and safety is tight in your country (like the UK!) then you could just stick with cutting paper or something similar.
Kondini does them silent to build the crowd and even “break the circle”. They are incredibly effective when he does it silently. I may feel the need to do it with patter but I am no where near to being in his league. I think the idea of silent / vocal / just to music is down to the individual! Choose your routine and try it out both ways! Which ever one you are more comfortable with is the one to go with. Dave |

The quadro-vicious circle linking barb wire rings look very good but they are an unusual object and as such you shouldn't expect your audience to instantly 'get' what they are. Especially if you're working a large venue. If you're doing a silent routine you'd need to make sure that the audience is aware of what the prop is otherwise it's likely that they'll miss the point of your routine. (pun unavoidable )

Trust me, it is very very hard to do this as a silent act.

Christopher: do you have a video posted somewhere of your routine for these?
I'm looking for a jumping off point to put something together. |

Do it to music, no talking, except to keep saying "Ow" in time to the music at select (beat) intervals.
Then produce bandaids on all of your fingers at the end. Jay Jennings

I heard it's a sharp trick and there are lots of snags when practicing it...but it's still a cut above the regular linking rings... ...

With the right song, this could be killer.
Go with the theme or against it such as Santana's Smooth. Reminds me of when I was at Lansing Penitentiary. Of course they had razor wire. Harris counselor in max..not inmate!
