Kinesis,
Congratulations on hitting 40. And, from my personal experience (although it's a bit hard to recall 40, it being so long ago and all that): Just remember, it's a lot easier pushing 50 than pulling it! In another few years, you'll qualify for a set in the House of Lords (Senate, on this side of the pond), where the average age is deceased. |

I don't think that the great Robert Houdin even performed any magic for the public until after he was 40...

I'm 42 and my life has never been better! If I knew what I know now, when I was in my teens, I would have been a force to be reckoned with. I'm living a second childhood and thoroughly enjoying it!
It may not be long before I write a book of my material. I'm also working on a few projects, developing some all original material for my act. It may not be long before I have some more signature effects in my act. Having my best Christmas season ever, with three times the gigs of my next best year. Plans seem to come together, with age, when life is lived to be enjoyed. |

Happy birthday!
My 46th was last week, the day after my 25th wedding anniversary. Remember that there are things you can say to an audience at 40 that would get you slapped at 20. (Eugene Burger asks female audience members to write their phone numbers on playing cards, then tells them that he sells them at the local truck stop; imagine a 20-year-old trying to get away with that line!) As for anecdotes, I'll probably have a clearer head for that sort of thing when I'm off the drugs for my throat. |

Congrats, Kinesis. Remember that the term 4-O also is the proper term for the Okay sign made with the index finger and thumb describing a circle. Hence, being 4-0 IS 4-0!
S2000, congrats as well! I recently celebrated my twelfth anniversary of my fortieth birthday and have to agree with Peter M that pushing fifty is a lot easier than pulling it. Remember, both of you - age will NOT sneak up on you. It will mug you in a dark alley and rifle your pockets for loose change! Congratulations anyway to you both. Lee Darrow, C.H.

Ahhh to be young and 40 again. Congratulations. Age is such a subjective thing and you are only as old as you feel. I got number 55 coming up on the day after christmas and except for some arthritis here and there still feel like a kid and according to the wife am very immature for my age.
"Older .... not old". that's one of my mottos. "You never know what is enough till you find out what is more than enough." is another but that's off the subject. Happy birthday to all the magical capricorns out there... Barry Gitelson Kona Hawaii

Forty is still young, my boss is in his 40's and he is still very active in magic and it hasn't slowed him down at all.

Here are some things that people did at age 40:
Jonas Salk created his polio vaccine. Henry Ford started the Ford Motor COmpany. Gounod composed his Faust. Mae West siged her first film contract. Gene Kelly made Singin' in The Rain. Yul Brynner made The King and I. Stephen Sondheim wrote Company. Tenzing Norkay became one of the first two people to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. Babe Ruth played his last game (and hit three consecutive home runs). Hank Aaron broke Ruth's home run record. Jack Nicklaus won the U.S. Open. Groucho Marx (to a woman): How old are you? Woman: Approaching forty. Groucho Marx: From which direction? From Jeremy Baker's Tolstoy's Bicycle. |

There was, and maybe still is, a sponge effect where the assistant ends up holding a sponge shaped like the number 4 (four).
Something may be done here using the 4 and another of the sponges. Congrats on the big 40! |

Happy Birthday Kinesis,
I have just recently returned to magic at age 39 (now 40). We're still young(ish). LOL. Read up on Bert Allerton. He didn't even START performing professionally until he was in his forties, maybe even pushing fifty. He has been quite an inspiration to me. Cheers, Fatts |

Happy Belated Birthday!
If you need to hear compliments here's a suggestion. Tell people you have just turned 65 and they'll tell you how good you look for your age! Many Happy Returns of the day Chrystal |

I am fifty-five, going on fifty-six, and have found the following bit of philosophy of some comfort over the years:
"It may be that you're only young once, but you can be immature your whole life..." Happy birthday! |
