I once knew a girl named Kista Balls. No lie. That was really her name. I also had a classmate named Luke Beaver. One I thought you could make funny was Dawn. That name just dawned on me. I thought of that one at dawn. I know, I know, terrible, as usual. If I think of anymore I will post them.

You: "What's your name?"
Stu: "Stu."
You: "And what's your favorite food, stew?"

And if she's hot and it's a comedy club or other all-adult setting, there are definite possibilities for mention of the crack of dawn.

Sorry for the rapidfire posts, but I just thought of another source for these types of jokes.

Back in the 80's when Howie Mandel was very popular on the standup scene (back when he used to do the rubber glove shtick) he would speak to people at random in the audience. When they gave him their name, he always had a quick response. A few that come to mind...

Jim: Hey, I had you in high school!
Bill: Something about getting him in the mail (it was funny when I was 15)
Bob: Oh, but you spell it backwards, right?

And if he couldn't think of something to say about their name, he would ask what they do. One that sticks out in my mind:

"What's your name?"
"Linda"
"What do you do, Linda?"
"I'm the manager of a shoe store."
"And what do you do as manager? What has to be going on for the other employees to say, 'Sh*t! Go get Linda!'?"

And on that topic of "What do you do?" I once had a guy on stage with me. I was about to stick a roll of toilet paper on his fingers to do the old 'toilet paper balls over the head'. I still had it behind my back as I asked him what he does. His response: "I sell plumbing supplies."

The audience participation gods were smiling on me that night.

My Son's name is Avi. That is kind of Avi-ous (sounds like Obvious when his brothers say that to him).

I have used the stock line of:
Magician: What is your name?
She: Diana
Magician: May I call you Diana?
She: Yes.
Magician: When is a good time to call you?

You can also use:
Magician: What is your name?
Person: <tells you their name>
Magician: Good Memory!

Sue - My lawyer thinks that is a verb.
Don't say Hi to a person named Jack in an airport!

Actually it generally goes more like this

"What's your name?"
"Payne"
"What?"
"Payne"
"Pam"
"No Payne"
"Jayne"
"No Payne, like Thomas Paine"
Oh Payne P A I N E?
"No P A Y N E Payne"
"What do you do?"
"I'm a magician"
"Really, what instrument do you play?"
