Just to confirm Danny Doyle's post, when I saw him a couple of months ago, He was definitely talking to someone other than the audience.
I'm not looking to be a big star in magic
and that's working out REALLY good so far.

I think is surgically implanted somewhere...lol. I once saw his battery pack showing on his hip, but never saw any dangling wire anywhere. Its probably a small wireless voice clip of some sort.

An advanced landelier(?) mike?

The other good place to hide a mic is on the forehead at the hair line. The cord then is hidden in the hair, usually running down the part. This is a standard in musical theatre.

Yes I second that. Its on his chest. You would always see real close up shots and he is never wearing anything around the ear. Must be the chest especially since voice is more enunciated at the chest region. It must be easier to pick up the voice from there.

I don't know what mic he uses, but you're right about everything being planned. When I got picked (with the bouncing ball) to help at one of his shows, I was asked, as I was being led to the stage, if I was a magician(?!). I was then put in a specific place to help. So I think almost all that you guys have said is true. He definitely talks to his assistants through his mic. That guy has it down to a science!

His mic is clipped to his shirt and matches the color of the shirt. As with broadcast models, there are two mics that both pick up his voice. His beltpack, as with most on-stage actors, is probably being held in a velcro belt that fits around your midsection and under any costume. If you wear this in the small of your back, it will never be seen, as most shirts never fit snuggly on this part of the body. On a sidenote, the transmitters are often placed in a condom to keep them from getting wet from sweat.

Not sure if such an obscure topic is covered at any length in a book or DVD. The idea of throwing objects into an audience to "randomly select" volunteers has been used in several mental effects.Sorry I do not have any titles at my disposal.
