Hi all! I bought Showoff with Cards and I need help.
1. Thumb Fan I have big hands, but I can't seem to fan 270 degrees like pros do. Please advise. Also, is Rob's left hand placement correct? He puts a thumb on halfway across of the bottom of the deck, and two fingers half way on the other side (bottom). 2. 1 Handed Fan I've seen Devo fan an ENTIRE DECK. Since then, I've started practicing with half the deck, without much success. Hints appreciated. 3. FlipBack Vanish The "crackle" sound when I perform the "move" is a sure giveaway. Any hints? ---- Thanks peeps. While I think I'll have loads of fun learning as many things as I can from this DVD, some tricks like Rob's Snap (Colour) Change definately worries me. I know it's wrong. I've never seen anyone perform the move like that. I understand that a substantial amount of people (mostly rookies like myself) bought this DVD. I plan on compiling ALL the EFFECTS and EXPLANATIONS on the DVD. This would help us to determine: A) Which explanation/effect is missing B) Some alternative names C) Some alternative methods of performing the effect D) Identifying any errors in teaching methods E) Original Inventor of Effect Watch this space! |

I admire your intensions and I must say that there *are* some moves that are done correctly but that is less than a handful. Most of the moves as you probably have heard for the hundredth time was copied from Devo, Tudor, Cap, and a bunch of other artists listed.
To see moves that are really butchered, take a look at awesome blossom! |

For once handed fans, my best tip is to use your thumb as well.
Many people I have seen mostly move their fingers when they do a one handed fan, to get a really nice round fan use both. And heck, it took time for me to get it down well as well so you aren't alone, its all about practise. Just curious, what is the "Rob´s snap"? is it with a card left jogged on the deck and you basically snap it down on the table with one finger and it changes? That is a great color change, but its not Robs, very sure about that, ive seen lots of people do it before him, I think Daryl did it as well but in a different way. Or I might be wrong. Keep practising. ^^

Hi Zur,
I'm not saying Rob did everything wrong. I'm just aware that some moves (like the Snap Change) was wrong. I've never seen it done like that. Hi Harwin, Thanks for hints, but I wonder if finger placement has anything to do with it. I've been practicing for one week now, I just wish I can say with CONFIDENCE that I learned it right. Hmm --- Can someone also teach me how to CARD SPRING correctly? Thanks. |

Hmm, a week.
Ooooh that's really long, lol, took more than a month for me to make it really good. But also back then I had micro machines hands and like plastic cards so they werent so nice to me on the fanning side. Card spring? Well, spring by corners like any XCM artist would say, I agree with that, the end to end way just gives a noisy BRSCHHHHT sound and they go much more uneven.

ALl type of fans require some amount of practice and time, and some needs kinda knack. And I think best way to start is try with different decks ,when I first started magic I had problems makin fan with bicycle deck but then I tried another deck and I was doing great, after 1-2 weeks I moved to bicycle deck and I was doing thumb fan da same so maybe you should try it with another deck for a while then get back to bicycle.

Talking about Showoff with cards: The way they present the triple carlier cut is interesting but very different from the variation that other magicians call a triple carlier cut, where they split the part of the deck that they dropped rather than the one that they didn't drop. I believe an example is Paul Tejera's Card Flourishes
(but I am not sure as I have not checked). Does anyone have any insight into this? |

This DVD does teach things wrong. We said it before, and now we'll say it again. If you want to learn the moves correctly, don't buy this DVD.
The Xtreme Beginnerz DVD by Superhandz will be out in the near future, learn the moves correctly from the best and the inventors of the "pet moves". De'vo, Daryl, Jerry, and some others from what I here will be teaching it. Mike

BaginnerZ, eh?
It might be good if theres some new stuff in it but there is already several videos out with flourishes dedicated to beginners. Brad burt has one out, Capaso Casino has one out, I'm sure some others are out as well. So beginner dvd: s with the same old stuff is kind of boring. But if they include some Easy-to-perform new moves that beginners would be able to do, that is cool. We´ll see.

Hi guys... Charlier Cut question:
Rob used his MIDDLE FINGER to push the deck up. I prefer to use my index finger. Naturally, this screws up my ButterFly Cut. Comments please: Middle? or Index. Thanks in advance. |

I agree, doing some moves the wrong way will make other moves harder.
But off course you can try to do the move with some other finger in some other way, who knows, you might invent some awesome cut? I used to do Riffle passes with my ring finger as the break before, But after a while I didn't like that I had to change from pinkey to ring finger whenever I were gonna do a riffle shuffle from a break so I just relearned it the right way. So that´s the tip, if you do the basic move only, learn it the right way, but also explore other ways and you might make up something new.

The Xtreme Beginnerz won't be the same old thing. Will have new beginning moves but will take beginners further than any other video from what I've read. Everyone knows that the Superhandz guys take things to another level. I wouldn't expect anything different with this DVD.

I would have to check it out first. Anything that a beginner could do most likely has already been done if easy enough for a beginner. Its kind of hard to say its new if its for someone just starting out. May be good though, who knows. Ive heard something about a new one hand cut dvd that will be out. Now that would be something to check out as long as everything is new. Who needs another dvd on charlier cuts, one hand shuffel ect. Those you can find about 10 other places each. Might be something to look into if it has new stuff to offer.

A new one handed cut DVD? Sounds like MM trying to compete with the Cobra.lol or rip it off. Good thing De'vo did copyright the Cobra name and move. He will sue anyone touching it.
Any one handed cuts are probably not new. Old charliers tripples and stuff. Nothing too new in one handed cuts. Cobra was the first in a very long time. The Xtreme Beginnerz from what I read will be more than just moves but teach everything about performance of XCM and XCM categories. I know that these moves will be new because no one has ever put out XCM beginnerz moves like SSSs and so forth. This will be different I'm sure that Cap or Brad Burt.lol Mike

Nice Detective work! So the culprit is Justin Knowel? I found his site and it says "superhandz seal of approval"? Any word on this?

I think his name is Justin Kowal. Or I may be wrong.
So it was Justin? I thought you accused another guy a minute ago? (That guy is quite active on this forum by the way.) I don't think its a good idea to go ahead without proof. Or have you possible heard something I havent? Im curious about how De´vo succeeded copywriting a way to move your hand with cards, as far as I have heard from many sources, its not possible to do at all. If you have something that is of material, like a object, you can make a patent for it but as far I i have heard, there is no way to put a patent or copyright on a way to move your hand. But also, I might have been wrongly informed, after all, Microsoft put a patent on the double-click. Please someone re-inform me.
