I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, but about 2 years ago I was in a magic shop and some guy proceeded to show me a series of manipulations with balls of aluminum foil. I was a complete laymen at the time, and it completely fooled me: basically he had a couple balls of aluminum foil, then then traveled from hand to hand a few times, then they started multiplying (I'm not sure exactly how many he started and ended with but it may have been 1 to 4, and they didn't multiply like the multiplying billiard balls that use sh***s but rather in his hands) after all this travelling and multplying the routine ended with the production of a huge ball of aluminum foil. Does anyone know the type of routine I'm talking about? From what the guy said you could do this with any small sperical objects.

I think you are referring to Vernets 'Multiplication of Balls'. They are not quite aluminium foil, but they appear to be something of that nature to a lay audience.
They can be found at most online dealers, and retail at around $20 ish. |

No they were definately balls of aluminum foil, I honestly think this may have been his own creation cause I've never seen anyhthing like it since. He kept telling me how he couldn't decide on what to use for the effect, but rolled up aluminum foil seemed to work well for him so he didn't change. I've seen multipling billiard balls (similar to the vernets) and he didn't have a ball in between each finger when they multplied - he wasn't using that display at all, and I'm quite sure he wasn't using any gimmicks. Again if this is his creation maybe I wont find it anywhere, but if anyone knows of anything like this in print, I'd appreciate it.

I think that is his own original idea. I don't know about people making money of rolled up pieces of foil. I could be wrong on this since I've never done my research, but its my opinion.

It's so hard to find something that can be used as a s***l, that matches the balls and fits them, so the foil would be a good option.

The foil certainly does allow the magician to present a totally unique and different manipulative presentation as the balls can be made and changed shape etc. It opens you to a lot of creativity with it. Interesting concept. You may not even need a s**** at all and still be able to present a fun and interesting routine.

It sound like they were small balls of foil and probably the "two in the hand and one in the pocket" routine. He said it could be done with any small object. Makes sense to me.
THOUGHTfully,

Yea I think two in the hand one in the pocket was part of it, but there was still some travelings and then a jumbo production at the end. Thanks guys,

Depending how the foil is crumpled up you could do some sponge moves with the foil balls, making them appear in the spectators hand.-

Sounds like the routine in Stars of Magic book. Scarne and Silent Mora did a ball routine like you discribe. Frank Garcia also wrote a book this close up routine.
