The cups and balls museum is strictly on line. It is not open to the public. It has been on line since July of last year. Before that, the cup display was part of another web site.
Still more pics up.

There are quite a couple of diff. posibilities there.. I've sometimes zapped forth and back and had a bit probs in finding the latest uploads.. I can't imagine I'm the only one, maybe nobody else wants to admit it can be a bit tough to *find* the latest stuff there?

Sure:
There are new cups in the mini cups section, the chop cup section, the unusual cup section and the regular cup section. Among these are some cups that belonged to Willi Faster, who was the president of the MZ v. D in the 1930's, some cups that belonged to Peter Antoni, as well as a set of Rings and Things copper monti combo cups (mini). Then there are some new Mini Foxes, as well as new copper monti cups.

Re Willi Faster, I actually think he was presedent of the MzvD much later then 1930, because I did meet him, when he still was president, that then must have been around 1960 oir so..I'll look it up at post re this.. Was easy to find..1958-1969 president of the MzvD.

Ah. I misunderstood something. He joined the MZ v. D in 1931. I got the info from
http://www.mzvd.de/sites/wir/geschichte/chronik2.php . Thanks for the correction.

Bill, I hope this is not too sophomoric a question (three questions).
When is the first reference to cups and balls in writing? (I have a sinking feeling here, that it is going to be a German reference with lots of letters.) What is the oldest sample (still intact) of a cup from cups and balls? When was the first known “drawing” of cups and balls being performed? Bob |

The oldest reference that I have been able to track in writing may be from the writings of Seneca. He refers to the acetabularii, who performed with cups and stones.
I don't know what the oldest sample of a still intact cup from a set of cups and balls might be. Cups that belonged to Conus and Bosco were recently auctioned. There may be older examples as well. Ken Klosterman has a set that belonged to a fellow who was on the Monitor. The oldest known painting was auctioned off in December. The thread about it is here http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......30&5 The famous drawing from the tomb at Beni Hasan is generally accepted now to be an illustration of bakers molding bread. Bob Read is working on a book that will have a lot of this information in it.

I know I am dreaming-but an entire C & b convention. Bob Read and BillPalmer as the two featured lecturers. Dealers from all over, both new and collectible.
Think of the wood, and leather, brass, copper, stainless, aluminum, and silver. Teapcups from Norm Nielsen, you get the idea. Wouldnn't it be fun! David |

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

I wouldn't be surprised if they found one of someone finding a coin in a bread roll. When the Greeks ruled Egypt, during the Ptolemaic dynasty, there were large copper coins produced which most coin dealers call "Ptolemies." They are about the size of an older English penny and about 3/16 of an inch thick. They are also fairly common, so they aren't too expensive.
For those of you who haven't been to the cups and balls museum since the last notice that new photos were up, I have added a set of Brass Sherwoods, a set of wooden cups from Colin Rose, two sets of cups from Owen and some others as well on the Regular Cups page. There are also some interesting "found jumbo" cups, as well.
