Gaston has released a new dvd, "Mysteries at a Magic Bar." I am interested in a good review of his new DVD. Im excited about this because his first release contained some beautiful magic. Since then, I have been hoping to see more from him.

Hanklee's has it as well. However, some of the material was published in Magic a few years back, so check your back issues. If you have it and like what you see, then by all means get the DVD.

Looks interesting even though I know nothing about this magician,
What's supposed to be the skill level on this? Jack.

His english has probably improved by the years also, that was the only factor lacking in his previous video. -e-

I havent seen this as well, but I do have his "20" video, Unfortunately, I found most of the stuff in the 20 video to be from somewhere else or unpractical for restaurants/bars (ie. cards on the floor) some of the coin stuff can be found in Vallarino's champagne act...

I totally agree, but I find the problem with the routine is the clean up as mentioned in my previous post

Not really standard...A little more difficult...Moves like:
-Lennart Green's Top Shot -Multiple Coin Palming (easy for intermediate, difficult for me ) -Some passes

I just got this dvd yesturday. OH MAN! It is freaking sweet. I've had Twenty for a while. Some of the tricks in Twenty were hard to clean up from, but he does explain ways to clean up from them. His English has improved as has the video quality (though he still has an accent seeing as he lives in Argentina).
This dvd has some pretty cool effects that are very easy to do, and some that seem impossible to get away with. He does them very well so it's obvious that they aren't impossible to do. The easiest trick in the video is a trick that uses a double lift and an elmsly count. The hardest trick would have to be vanishing a ring back onto the SPECTATOR's finger. He has some very nice coin effects that really only require a classic palm to do them. Some effects like in his other video, will be worthless to you, and other's will be worth the price of the dvd. Personally, I liked the majority of the tricks in the video even though they require some skill. I think it was a great follow up to Twenty. It does require some skill, but look like miracles when you perfect them. |

Multiplication: This is a routine where the performer splits coins as a means to produce 4 coins. I think the production is very nice and is more visual than other methods. Although I don't think much has been added to the concept of splitting coins, it's definately something to try out.
Breeze Coins: Those looking for a nice barehanded coin matrix will love this one. The only difficult thing about this is you have to classic palm with both hands, but even then it isn't too difficult. This trick was published in Magic Magazine as well. The routine is short, sweet, and visual. V.V.: This trick I was pretty much just a repeat of Valerino's coin vanishes with cards from his act. He pretty much did the same thing as his trick Hypnosix from his video Twenty, only with 4 coins and no appearance of extra coins or jumbos. I think the reason he included this was because it was a shortened routine than the other one in Twenty. A card tosses 4 coins into the other hand vanishing them one at a time, they reappear under the card. More Discrepancies: I liked this trick a lot because it's impromptu and looks very clean. The magician takes out 3 prediction cards and lays them out one next to the other on the table, the spectator deals through the deck until they want to stop. The card they stop at has the same value as the 3 the magician layed on the table. Card Portation: This is a nice visual cards across (similar to an invisible palm, but differently structured). It has a nice suprise ending that other versions don't have. This trick isn't easy to do, but looks great. Double Impact: This is probably one of the hardest tricks to do on the dvd. Two cards are chosen and lost. The Magician takes two random cards and visually changes both at the same time into the selections. Though it isn't easy to do, it's one that you will love to practice because it fools yourself when done properly. Ring Thing I: A borrowed ring vanishes and reappears on the back of the spectators hand. A nice short trick that is very strong. Not that hard to pull off. Ring Thing II: A borrowed ring vanishes onto the spectators finger. This is a bit hard to do than the first version, but definately doable. I can't wait to try this one out. Card to Box: This was another routine where I felt he didn't add much to the original trick. A chosen Card appears in the box. Though nothing new is added, I like the moves taught to accomplish this (especially since one small move I thought I invented). Overall I would give this video a 8/10. |

Gaston is one cool magician. I am surprised he isn't better known. I think this DVD is a mixture of great tricks with some totally impractical ideas. The opening three tricks are very very good. No matter how many times I watch the finale of VV it looks great. It really is beautiful, think the first time you saw one of Shoot's original matrix routines. "Double Impact" is very angly and I think impractical. I don't think the two girls watching would have been fooled. That said this a fun DVD that many people won't buy because they don't know Gaston's name. It's also a good DVD if you just like watching great magic done well. If you liked something like "Cultural Xchange" you will like this.
Just a magic lovin dude

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the Kind comments!! Happy to finally release Mysteries, too busy with shows, but I found some time in Buenos Aires (now I'm living in Dubai, UAE) to tape it and very happy with the final result... Lets see, If you have the DVD I strongly recommend to try the 2 finger ring effects, this are now my most powerfull impromptu effects, I use one or the other deppending on the situation. And Double Impact I always performed STAND UP with the audience also standing...this way the angles are 100%, the only reason I performed on a table on the DVD was for the camera setting. And all the effects in Mysteries and Twenty are part of my repertoire, some are difficcult I know, but this is my magic, the magic I do, but for sure you can find something you can use. Gaston!
Glad you could join us. Welcome to The Magic Café. Your video Twenty is one of my favorite's in my entire video library. Thanks for contributing your vision of magic to the magic underground. I am looking forward to purchasing your new DVD. Your version of Reset (Re-test), on your first video has to be one of the best variations. It is the only version I use. Good stuff man! Good stuff! Take care, Brian Proctor |
