Hi I'm writing a paper about Magic and had some comments about Eugene Burger in it. I remember him doing this great torn and restored thread trick on TV. Does anyone know the name of that trick. The name Eugene Calls it? Was it 'Vishnu thread'?
Thanks

It is his variation/presentation of "Gypsy Thread".

BTW, he also has other presentations for this same routine.

You can also look into Henry Evan's "Flash Thread" routine as well. Whilst not the same version this is perhaps an even stronger one?

I believe it is the name of three gods, of which one is Vishnu, and the creation of the world. The word "thread" does not appear in the title.

Cheers,

"Vishnu" is one of the others. I'll leave it to someone else to name the other.

I belive "Brahma" is one of them.

The three Hindu gods are Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer). In "The Experience of Magic", the title of the chapter on this effect (which just describes his presentation) is called "Cosmic Thread", which I assume is his title for his presentation of the effect. His inspiration for the presentation came from the fact that the trick was originally called "The Hindu Thread".

His most recent presentation is called "Shakespearean Thread" and can be found on the third volume of his L&L video set. Max Maven prefers a different title for this presentation, though -- "Vishnu Doesn't Live Here Anymore."

I liked his reasoning behind the miniature candle. Burning the thread apart adds a nice touch to the effect, but basically it was because his hands hurt from trying to break the thread.

Actually it was because Eugene used to bite the thread and after having extensive and expensive dental work he didn't want to damage his teeth. Just a little trivia.

I believe the Vishnu presentation was called "Cosmic Thread" in one of his books.

It's in the Chicago tapes series, I believe - perhaps in the "Eugene goes Bizarre" DVD. Boy, what a phenomenally STRONG presentation! True theater in the finest sense of the word!
