Ron's right about that. No one effect is the be-all end-all effect in magic. The same effect that has made people run out of a bar screaming has gotten mediocre reactions for me on a different night. Maybe it was the crowd, maybe it was me. Maybe I didn't sell it with as much conviction the second time. Maybe that particular audience didn't care for my presentational style that second night. To me that's the best part about being a "magician." We NEVER know exactly how our audience is going to react to ANYTHING we do. That's the adrenaline rush for me.
Personally, about the only time I perform close-up levs is when meeting with a potential client to help "close the deal." I found it to be my strongest effect for nearly guaranteeing the gig. I don't think there's anything more powerful that I can do in a client's office than to levitate on their turf with "no" preparation or fancy stage. I've been told more than a dozen times by clients after they booked me that the levitation sold them on me. |
