Be careful if you buy it. I ruined a $300 TV just by walking by it!

My opinion: Impractical for impromptu, wonderful for premeditated Pk effects. Better off on a different appendage than the one performed on ellusionist's video demo (bulky, cumbersome, and risk factor to sensitive objects)

Sounds a little bit like a "Raven", or "the bat", Right???

On the web page, they say it is similar, but better. Is it really? Did any body get a chance to compare?

Loual... same principle, completely different gimmick though. I have both. Like I said in my previous post, I find the M5 awkward. I will utilize it when the moment is right, but you won't find me using it often.

If you want to doin visual coin and other shim vanishes - raven
If you want to do PK effects (unexplainable movement of objects, ability to discern information, i.e. which container has a secret item) - M5

I don thk the M5 is good.

my friend bought it and found it to be kinda impractical to use in close up performances (i mean having to hide the gimmick and having to make the sleight look natural - pple who have the gimmick shld know wat I mean)

well its not really a sleight but a movement Smile

and yes you have the tendency to destroy not only TVs if you are not careful lol

I have an M5 and do use it. Yes I think it is bulky and difficult to hide, but it can produce some good strong effects.
My favourite is to make a coin flip over in the spectators hand, or the movement of an item under a glass is effective. I have done several watch stops with it the is really strong, but you do run the risk of killing the spectators watch!
Keep it well away from your computer!

I do use the m5, and almost never leave home without it! yes it is bulky, yes it does take some practice (just like ANYTHING) and for the reactions I get,it is well worth it! and remember nothing is perfect!
Double posters should be shot!

The main reason I don't use it is that I know that I will subconciensly walk by some electronics and ruin it. I don't want to think about where I'm walking 24 hours a day.

I use it, I Love it. It can work wonders. Yes, it is bulky, but if used right, it won't get in the way. It can work wonders, and I wouldn't take anything for it. Yes, there are some pros and cons, but the pros will win. pm me if you wnat the info.

The bulkiness of the item makes it very hard to wield. That is just one aspect to consider.

:fyi: Just as a safety list, here are the items that can be damaged by an M5:

    Category 1:

  • TV screens (CRT, not LCD, as for plamsa, I'm not sure)
  • Computer Monitor, again, only CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes), not an LCD flat screen.
A whacked out CRT may be fixed, however, by degaussing it. Permanent damage is rare or unlikely, though possible, I suppose. LCD based TVs and monitors don't utilize what's known as a "yoke", and so should not be sucseptible to the M5 whatsoever. Entirely different principle of video rendering.

    Category 2:

  • Cassette Tape
  • Video Tape
  • Audio Tape
  • Floppy Disk
  • Hard Disc/Drive
  • Credit Cards !
  • Basically, anything that stores data that is magnetic sensitive.
The small and now common USB storage devices that you see everywhere are generally pretty hardy, while you might manage to lose some data, they're not nearly as vulnerable as floppys or hard drives. Instead they use solid state memory, an array of small charged semiconductor capacitors, in effect.

What is NOT affected: CDs, DVDs, and MDs(Sony), which are photo-optic, not magnetic. General electronic components like resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc. are also immune.

    Category 3:

  • Pacemakers !!!!
Try not to animate that shimmed match in Grandpa's face unless you're really looking forward to some inheritence, you sick puppy.

thanks for the list Smile .....all those items can be found practically everywhere so we have to be extra careful as to where we go to when having an m5 on board Smile

You're welcome Smile

As an aside, a lot of people don't realize that audio speakers contain magnets - in smaller speakers, the "bookshelf" variety, this is usually neglible, but in larger speakers, the field can be fairly strong.
People sometimes plop their VCR tapes on top of the speaker, or right next to the speaker, then wonder why the video looks bad next time they go to play it. So then they start running one of those horrid dry, abrasive VCR cleaning tapes through the VCR and chew up their heads, then they need new heads or a new VCR .. you get the picture -anti-pun not intended ..

I wonder if an M5 would break a microwave oven if you sat it on top of one ? Microwave ovens utilize a device called a magnetron, which creates the actual microwaves. I'm not going to experiment, that's for sure !

I have one, but I haven't used it because it was bigger and bulkier than I thought it was going to be. It would be great if you could get a gadget to hold it underneath a table. Then you wouldn't need to strap it on your leg.

The Raven and Bat seem better geared twoards this type of magic. I use them both and like the outcome.
