I would like to purchase a good rabbit in the hat. I have found three rabbit in the hats available:
1. Duane Laflin sells a rabbit puppet for $25.00 without a hat. The puppet is nicely detailed and has a mouth and has a black sleeve attached to it to hold and conceal the performer's arm. 2. One Way Street sells the puppet with the hat for $40.00. There is also an accessories kit available for routines in the "Realm of the rabbit" booklet. The rabbit does not appear to have a mouth. 3. Dave Risley sells a puppet with a hat for $49.00. It seems to be more fluffy than the other two but appears to be less detailed. He also sells a kit with a foam carrot and a vest for the rabbit. I would appreciate your comments and opinions as to which of rabbit in the hat I should purchase. Thank you very much. Michael

I don't own any of them, but I have been hearing some good comments about the One Way Street Rabbit In The Hat puppet. I think the Realm of The Rabbit is supposed to be very good also.

Regan,
Thank you very much for your comments. It does appear that many people prefer the One Way Street rabbit. I think I will spend the 40 clams. If I don't like it, I have a good recipe for rabbit stew. Best regards, Michael

You're welcome, Michael.
If you get it, I'll bet that rabbit will never go into the pot because you will fall in love with it. If I'm wrong, for goodness sakes don't cook it. I'd say someone would pay to take it off your hands. Regan

Got mine off EBAY for $13 total and serves me well. I forget the label but it was a nice label attached.

I got the Folkman Rabbit in the Hat for $15.00 and cut the Hat off. I've used it in a book and in a hat.

I have both the One Way Street puppet and the Laflin puppet. I like them both, and really you can't go wrong with either one.
The Folkman puppet by comparison is just a toy. It is designed for a child size hand. You a very limited as to what body language you can have it do. http://walkermagic.com/rabbits.jpg

Is anyone using a swap-out hat before or after the “rabbit in a hat” routine?

I have the same two rabbits as Andy does.
It is true that the Laflin puppet is made of better materials and has some finer details added. When you compare them, however, I believe the OWS puppet may be the more endearing of the two. The best bet might be to just add a mouth to the OWS. Tod

Mine off EBAY is a Folkman puppet. Andy is right about the movement though. No way I could get it to turn like Andy's One Way Street Rabbit.

Thanks, Andy. Are you going to market your routine? If so, please let me know. I do vent in my current routine and it has some good jokes, but I haven't worked in a good see/don't see squence into it. I want to add that. I would also probably want to add some slapstick.

I love my One Way Street Rabbit....but I have to admit, I think the Laflin rabbit in Andy's pic is a bit cuter!!!!
Maybe I should....(slaps his own face)....stop it! When will all this spending end!?!?! |

Andy,
Thanks for sending me your routine. I really really enjoyed it. I have to admit I was completely charmed by Fluffy and, dare I say it, I've got a bit of a crush on him. I think you used the One Way Street puppet for Fluffy on the CD, correct? Since the One Way Street puppet doesn't have a mouth, I wonder if it could work for me since I do a vent voice for my rabbit character? I wonder how hard it would be to add a mouth. Could the Laflin puppet be used in the One Way Street hat? Are the puppets interchangeable like that? Thanks again for sharing a great routine. I'd love to see more of your show, not so much to learn from it (though I certain would) but because I enjoy your performing style so much. Best, Jim

Thanks for your commenst James. Yes they are interchangable. The rabbit in my video is the One Way Street puppet but I am using the laflin puppet now in the old OWS hat.
If you are going to do vent I would suggest the Laflin puppet. It has a mouth & it is cheaper. You can use any hat with it. Just cut a hole at the back for you hand to enter.
