I've heard card guards can prevent the box and deck from being bent and beat out of shape. Could anyone give suggestions of where to find one? Price? Options?

The one you want is the Porper clip.
http://www.bobkohlermagic.com/products/cardclip.html The cheap one is just that, cheap. I've owned both, and only the Porper clip provides even pressure across the face of the card. The cheap one tends to pinch hardest just along the "spine" of the clip. That won't give you flat cards. Additionally, in my experience the cheap one chews up card boxes. Paul

Hmm I would feel that getting a new deck of cards is more appropriate then to get a card guard as theres a limit to how long the life span of ur deck can have even with the help of a guard

I keep some of my cards in Card Guard, mainly my Tiger Decks simply cause they are a bit more expensive. If you imagine if you pull the guard out, then out of that you pull black cards... it says something about you before the trick has even started. But that is only because I use the tiger decks as part of my patter and therefore am justified in using them. If you have no reason to use them, what this says about you before the trick has started might be the wrong thing... if you get my drift. Keep your trick decks in the card guards. I keep my Invisible deck in one at all times. Still looks near brand new.

In my opinion Roberto Giobbi, author of "Card College", sells the best ones. They are a bit pricey (30 Swiss Francs = approx. 40 USD) but will last a lifetime.

The Porper one is more than great, nice looking and will also be of use if you live in areas with a lot of humidity, the cards will stay flat.

Wow, what a thread! Some good stuff here!
Bikes cost about a £1 a deck here in Blighty (£2.50 at the worst!) So a card guard merely 'looks pretty' on these (my reason for a guard!) and doesn't serve a 'real' purpose. Though I like the idea of a guard around 'Tigers' for the reason already mentioned. But the "Porper" has to ooooooze class for any deck!! I can't imagine that the wooden boxes put the same sort of pressure on the deck as the Porper clip. They're pretty, but don't seem very functional. Since I don't like to let spectators see me taking cards out of the Porper clip to begin with (I don't want them to think the cards are "special"), I would tend to eschew a non-functional yet "pretty" box, since I'd never get to show it to anyone anyways.
Might get some ooh and aahs down at the club meetings though. Paul

I've never used a card guard (Waddingtons - British & BEST
 ) don't warp!!
However, a friend uses one and has said that once he's worked and the sticky sweaty mitts have warped a deck throughout the night, his metal card guard gets them pretty flat again - especially if they are left in a cool place. However, I would think that whilst they serve a purpose, I would never dream of removing a deck from one in front of spectators. For me that would be bad psychology and perhaps indicate that the deck was anything but 'normal' even if it is! Only my view but anything that arouses any element of suspicion cannot be good!

True, one shouldn't show that to the audience, but let's talk practice. It's better to use a clip between practice sections, than use more decks...

The Superhandz ones are amazing. they most certainly do provide even pressure along the entire deck, seeing as how 1.) It's hig-quality wood, and doesn't bend, and 2.) it's sealed off at two ends. I've never owned a Porper, but I can attest to the fact that since I've been using my Superhandz box, my cards are not being warped anymore due to body heat, etc. Please note that I'm not a Superhandz junkie, either.
