Thanks Dave. Don't think I could 'stretch' to two. How do I get in touch with Joe?

What's the difference between using a card clip and placing a deck between large heavy books overnight?
Apart from mobility, is there much difference? |

The pressure is equal when you use a card clip: if you use books you may have a more pressure on one side and that's not good if you want smooth and plain cards. The card box itself last longer if you protect it. I have been many times in my life in tropical/exotic countries with a very humid and hot climate. The cards may bend if they are exposed in these conditions, the card clip works very well as a protecting angel. |

I have a card guard from Viking and am thinking of investing in a Porper. But for home base I use some 1/4" plexiglass plates cut to size 3" by 4" and use a spring clamp to compress them overnight. (This is the same set-up I use when I split
cards to make gaffs and glue them up). It works fine, but for carrying I use the clip. Florida humidity will destroy cards in short order, but the clip keeps them alive a bit longer. "KRaZy4kardz"

I have four or five card guards, but my favorite is the Porper. I believe it's the original. (I didn't know Viking made one.) I have a real "thing" about warped cards, so when I open a new deck, I alternate every other card (FU / FD) and then put the deck in a card clip overnight. The result is a perfectly flat deck, in most cases. In my experience, Bicycles often warp, and I really can't stand working with warped cards. But, it doesn't seem to bother some people. In fact, I've seen some very well known card magicians using warped bicycles.

An engraving shop?
There are several franchise shops in most U.S. cities. One is "Things Remembered" found at most major shopping malls. There should be similar shops in Singapore as well. There are numerous kiosk watch and engraving booths in malls as well.

Reading this I have realized that I probably buy the el cheapo guards. Stainless steel. However I add a unique touch to them. I use my trusty Dremel and make some nice patters and such on them. Currently I have one I made with 2 m's on it. (Mystic Magic) I'm getting ready to make some really cool ones. I have noticed a few problems with them that are easily correctable, and one or two that aren't. I want to find a laquer or thick paint that in the low spots I make I can fill with color. If anyone has any ideas. Please do share.
Thanks. Mystic Magic |

One of these days, I am also going to purchase the Porper Clip to carry my cards in but right now, I have bought several of the cheap Penguin Magic Card Guards.
The only problem with the Penguin Card Guards is that the inside edges around the Card Guards are rough. Here is how you can take care of that problem. What I do to improve the Card Guard, is to take a Dremel and grind down the rough edges around the inside edge of the Card Guard. This allows you to slide your playing cards in and out of the Card Guard without tearing up your card boxes. Gerard

I have a cheap Penguin one too, but I haven't found any problems with edge roughness. I just got one, so maybe it's a newer/better batch.
I've been rather pleased. The guard keeps my cards straight so that they're much easier to faro. |

Ok, first off I have only used the penguin clip. However, I would like to try the porper version. Am I mistaken or isn't there two versions of the porper clip? I thought there is the popular black version that is on handzlordz/superhanz, (sorry I'm no expert to that paticualr scene), and there is another version mentioned by jeff McBride on his card manipulation series which is basically two red plates with bolts and wing nuts to flatten the cards. please correct me if I am wrong. I would like this to be cleared up. By the way, I use old deck for routines such as the cardboard connections series by paul Harris, mercury card fold practice, and torn and restored routines. I hope this helps someone and I'm not just rambling.

The Demon - Sounds like you're refering to the Porper clip(handlordz) and the Norm Nielsen Presto Card Press(mcbride).
Jeff - I love that clip. It looks sharp. Could your friend do one in Blue as well?

Thank you for clearing that up Alniner. I was thinking of the Norm Nielsen Presto Card Press. I might buy one of these for my bee decks. cardini single productions can take a toll of your deck.
