The dynamics here are not what they seem. are you taking the mick or just being mean?
Your mockery cuts and is sharp with no doubt, your lyrics are dull and lack any clout. If your magic is matched by the advice that you say then your advice and your magical value are [insert a word of your choice] JT, any particular chapter?

Yeah, was thinking of the guy who makes the host look good at parties. You bring the magic to the background of the party. More subtle and more special. Like those spices that you use just a pinch, that change the tast of the food without being noticed themselves.

I would like to describe a routine but I don't really have one. I am in a suit so have the advantage of suit based magic. I wear a short sleeve shirt under the jacket, mostly a dark colour. I have short sleeve for a more intimate and fair magic.
With me I have a 1xTT, 1x6thfing, 1xIT head rig with wallet replacements. KK in a half wallet. 1xreel raven with mods, wax, cards (that I give to the bar), folding coin, pen/pencil and paper pad with dupe pad, 'writer', Star gazer (on the pads) with other bands, Paper clips and spare scotch tape. On a table I will have glasses, cigarettes, matches, lighters, napkins, plates and cutt, condiments , ashtrays, bottles and many other things. On the people you have rings, coins, keys, wallets, purses (this is a whole subject on its own), glasses and other artifacts. There are so many routes that I could take and many variables that are created by these routes. The thing is I have them all covered (or so I thought). I still mess up and need to practise more but until you make a mistake how will you know what to practise on! If I fluff I am lucky that I prime my punters first and that they will not piece together any particular mistake. They have many better things to be chewing over then a dropped coin or card. or a silly loss of the selected card.

Quick question Partizan...how old are you?
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

My real age is close to 40 but I have one of those hard to guess faces. I get guesses from 23 thru 38 when I let people have a guess.

I think Patrick meant 'mental age'. (You've already declared that your IQ exceeds that of Einstein in another thread...)

Mental age is 14 going on 90!
The IQ reference is to the ease of how the tests can be foiled. At the time I was 16 and I and a friend were problem solving crazy. We ended up in a battle to see who could get the best IQ. His best score (16 years old) was 172, Mine was 165. He won! And that's the story of how I beat Albert on IQ! Thank you for your interest joey. Ps, you have a sweet plant there in Uruguay. I would love to see D.brevifolia. Awesome.

Thank you, Partizan.
The reason I asked is because I wanted to see if I could get a better feel of your ability to be convincing. (Not that I doubt your ability!!!) To illustrate this, I'll try it with a contrast. Please remember, I'm believe firmly that perception is reality, not intent. You go to a party with the intent of making the host look good by confronting the party's guests with the impossible. Your goal is to leave them with the perception, "That was the best party I've been to in a LONG time, because there was this person there that did the most AMAZING things. I must thank the host!!" Your intent, no matter what your age, may certainly sway others' perception, but how far? Would you be more convincing, and, therefore, able to achieve this intent/goal if you are in your 20's, or your 40's, or even your 60's and 70's? What say? Also, I think you've found an underdeveloped market for magic. Too, you're breaking the molds of what people's perceptions of magicians really are. And for that, I, too, tip my hat to you. Good job! I've given a great deal of thought to your approach to performance for a long time. I have done magic this way also. I even have a name for it. I call it Guerrilla Magic.

Funny you bring up age, Patrick. I am quite young, though people put me a little older, I nearly always work this way, even, and especially in paying gigs.
I'm suprised this approach suprises so many, though. Been a long time since I've said, hello, I'm a magician, would you like to see a trick? Hell, I don't even work restaurant gigs that way. Salute to Partizan, at any rate. |

Would you be more convincing, and, therefore, able to achieve this intent/goal if you are in your 20's, or your 40's, or even your 60's and 70's? What say? I have a skill. The skill is people, Magic is only one of the many TOOLS that I use with my skill. I can walk upto and talk with anyone and be able to hold an interesting conversation with them on their terms. I can do this with groups of people. You might say. when I talk, people listen. As I have mentioned, I do not always DO magic. There are many other ways of tweaking peoples buttons, I use stories alot. [Ref JT - Lieutenant Drummond Keith]. And have also been know to start a song or two! Onto the question asked... My client uses me as a plant, to the guests I am one of them. I am not a person but I do use a persona, I have a name and background not unlike my own (u know y) and they will remember who I was. The talk of amazing things is minimal due to general party lag. By the time people get home and relax the whole night is a blur and the will forget the details. What they will not forget, was the feelings induced and the overall experience of the night and this is the key. I have been requested to befriend a single woman and cheer her up. I had spent over 4 hours talking with her and showing her things, We really bonded. The client who had requested me, related to me of how her friend was over the moon and her self confidence was back. She wanted to know what I had done!!! Trade secret my dear! was my reply. Age has no bearing on this. The factors are. Experience. Of People in singles and groups, male and female, old and young. Experience. In the skills and tools that you use, wether it be magic, conversation, empathy, control and so on. Confidence. In yourself and your experience of people. In your skills and in your tools. Mind. A quick mind that can assess and take action with speed and accuracy, that can be 3 steps ahead of the rest. Tact. It is good to know what too say and when not to say things, It is even better to just listen and give minimal prompts. Hygine. If you are going to be close to others then get smelling good. That means a carefully selected fragrance, freash breath, clean clothes. (I recommend issey miyake - dark blue) I hope that has shed some light down those dark alleys 8D I would go on, but my keyboard needs a clean, its all tacky [seen bad grammar and some sp.] TACKY BOARD!

It strikes me that this would be a particularly difficult and ambiguous service to promote. Partizan, is your work for the most part, by referral?

Serious word of mouth. I have 3 main clients and I don't always accept a gig. It started as favors and ended up in payment. It is a rare line of work but when a gig comes up it is worth the wait.

I think that if you are a full-time pro you will sense that something here is not kosher (or halaal). I wish I were in London to be able to come and witness one of these 'gigs'. Oh, wait, right, of course, nobody is allowed to witness it since it is undercover so it's all a furtive surprise. Right. So your marketing is only effective if people (your friends) know you, but then you can only do one gig for them (thereafter you lose the element of surprise, of course). So you only have as many gigs as you have friends. And they all have events where they need an undercover entertainer. Oh this is just ridiculous. I think I can see your pinnocchio nose from here in Uruguay... adios, joey |

Forcing magic on people, and marketing like Mcdonald's hamburgers is not the *only* way of doing business.
It is possible to work in the context of magician "only by request"...with complete strangers, by creating moments of mystery, and or using other aspects of your character than just that of being magician. Not sure the term, "undercover" is so great, though maybe it applies more to Partizan. It's not hard to get gigs, done properly. |

For Joey my biggest fan...
I have other things to do apart from magic5, this is just one aspect of my life. In the title it says "My Act" and this is all it is, It is not a brag or parade of my skills over others, but an attempt to inspire others by my own experience. to give others an idea of presentation in my non formalH way. I perform magic in other ways but not as an act. the way I describe is the only way my magic gets $$ The only bit of my you will see in your country is my butt, as I bend to view a rare drosea. In in my butt will be the card you are thinking of.

Well, in the nicest way possible, put me in the catagory of being just a teensy, weensy, skeptical. I believe you are doing these things and are being paid, but I feel there is a direct correlation between my skepticism and the number of words someone has to use to explain what they are doing. I think you describe things about what your targets feel--certainly a lot more than what you could know. If you think the targets will only see the events of the evening as a blurr, why do you think you know so much about what they do when they go home for the evening?
Also, don't spread around that you are part of a plot to "cheer up" single women. Some women, particularly single ones, don't appreciate everyone's need to cheer them up. I know plenty of women who might say you acted like a h****** a** (at least after the fact,) and that you are letting your ego get the better of you. I can see her now, writing a thank you note to you: "gosh, thank you for bringing my self-confidence back. Now I can go back to being able to work in the man's world again." (By the way, that was the reaction of my wife when she read this.) I hope some boss of mine doesn't send someone like you around to cheer me up, simply because I am quiet. I don't like being scammed, unless I know it is a scam and it is all in fun. In which case, send on the magician, and lets have a real show.

While I initially identified my performing style with something like partizans...I missed the undercover bits and plots to cheer up single women...I've nothing to do with that...and clients become quite aware that I am there to entertain...however I applaud working outside of the "magician" context.

Take a "chill" pill, before "Dopey" walks in.
Being paid to attend parties is viable...and hella new. Success here is a matter of Partizan's. Unless you've done it same...y'ought not be talking yer stuffing that don't matter none...etc. Singles included. Unless you're asking lots of neat questions...and that's a REAL GOOD THING. Questions...are a REAL GOOD THING. (Whit) Partizan once said...You might say. when I talk, people listen... I'll add...Y'might say...When people talk...you listen. Active listen. Now...listen. Naysayers, all. Trapped by limits self-set. West of the Mississippi...we say "Stick to your guns..." Partizan...if I had two heads...and wore hats on both of them...I'd tip both of them to you. Seeyaround.
