I have the impression that noone tells their magic tricks on this forum.
Or even card sleights? I have not read too much, but I havent come across a single topic where you can learn to make a thumbfan or a card sleight.. Is it forbidden to reveal this kind of things on this forum? |

On the home page click the link for Café Etiquette. It states that exposure of magic secrets is seriously prohibited in the public area. There is a section that after a certain number of qualified posts you can gain access to and then that type of discussion is open to you.
People can PM (send a private message) to each other and explain tricks that way as well. Even without the exposure of the tricks there is a lot of great information that is shared that is worth reading here. Enjoy! - Brian Nadworny

Aha ok.. So I can write a topic that states: 'Can anyone PM me and explain how I do a Thumbfan properly?'?

The best I can give you is: This is not a place to learn magic, Everyone will gladly point you in good directions, this is a great place to learn how to be a better magician. If your interested in magic this is the place to be.
Does that make sense? I have a way with words, not a good way..... but a way.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Ok, but I feel that its really funny that I cant learn the grip to do a thumbfan in here.. really is that trick? It takes more then a description to do it..
like exercise.. I don't think that you will get audience that says: oooh, he makes the thumbfan.. that's so lame, I have read about it on the internet.. so I know exactly how.. but I cant do it because I havent trained on it.. I just think this forum draws the line a bit early.. |

Have you asked someone? in "pasteboard frolics" they discuss things just like that. I believe if you know how to do the trick, and just need help on a particular part of the handling, most people here would be glad to help. I would tend to agree that the thumb fan shoud not be a hidden trick, maybe others can enlighten?
But let me say with regards the thumb fan, I had no luck with it until I developed my own feel for it. Keep practicing!

Well also It is how you approach it. Look around, see who is more persoanble than others. Send some PM's and then go for there. But opening up your tread with "where can I get secrets" will make everyone keep their distance.

Wasn't there a thumb fan in royal road?

Royal Road teaches several types of fans. However, if you want to post how to do one in Pasteboard Frolics, there will be several people to help. Fanning is not a secret of magic and has been discussed in the public forums elsewhere. You might do a search to find what you want. However, just for the record 50 posts is required to access the top-secret ever-so-forbidden areas of the Café.

There are wyas to give instructions without giving exposure, if both parties already know the secret.

Welcome to the Magic Café' itexus. As soon as you have your 50 posts your access will be automatic.
You might purchase a video or two that would probably be more helpful to you. I don't do much with cards myself so I don't really know what video to recommend but I will ask now. Any recomendations for a video on card fans anyone? Hope this helps a little itexus . Iven

Card College is a great source to learn from. When I do a fan, I hold a little extra pressure between my thumb and middle finger. I then just run my thumb over the cards and move them into position. Like was said earlier, its really more of a knack than a technique. Just keep doing it and you will get better at it.
Good luck, Richard BTW: You're right when you say that 50 posts is no difficult to do. It does seem to be enough, however, to demonstrate enough interest to show that you are really here to learn and share, not just to find out secrets. |

Texus, do you have access to a magic store? I mean a brick and motar store. You can ask there to show you in person, they can give you tips, look at what you are doing right/wrong.

Daryl Encyclopedia of Card Slights Volume two is good video and not expensive. Look for it as well, it might help you and it has lots more than what you are looking for. ;-)
