I am depressed. No one has mentioned "Bill Malone!, Bill Malone!, Bill Malone!"
Oh, I'm sorry!...We were talking Elegant. Ricky Jay for chutzpah and linguistic dexterity! Jean Pierre Vallarino for cards! James Dimmare for stage! Bill Witt for coins! (You've probably never heard of him!) FWIW Cheers!

Alan Wakeling
Juliana Chen Ricky Jay All fne artists, elegant, and I'd give anything, at any time, to go see the Ricky and Juliana, and I'll forever regret not being old enough to see Alan Wakeling when he performed near my home town so many years ago. And then there's Lance Burton, who has defined elegance in magic without a break since we all first saw him on Johnny Carson, and he continues to define it without fail, onstage and off. |

Dear FLIM-FLAM david Copperfield is not an elegant performer at all, in fact he is pretty layed back.

If we're just considering contemporary magicians I would assert that Michael Vincent is right up there with the very best. He's articulate, always immaculately dressed, not someone who embarasses his spectator or spews out cheesy one liners but insteads presents his tricks with intelligence.

Rich Bloch in my book is class incarnate. Even without the tux his voice is commanding yet elegant. He's my pick.

Lance Burton is definately the most elegant contemporary magician, but if you're talking about in all of history, I think it would be terribly hard to top Cardini.
